KISO manufactures butyl vacuum bag tape for composite moulding, developed for the wind energy industry. Because KISO compounds its own butyl, the tape is available in standard and higher-tack versions, including for high-temperature curing, so it can be matched to your moulding process. For composite manufacturers and for distributors, KISO can produce to your specification and supply under your own brand, including packaging, printing and labels. Founded in 1971 and ISO 9001 certified, with production in Køge and customers in 20+ European countries.
Vacuum bag sealing in blade production
Wind turbine blades are cast in moulds under vacuum, so the vacuum film must be sealed airtight to the mould. KISO Butyl Vacuum Bag Tape is made for this seal between mould and vacuum film. It adheres to masking tapes and vacuum films, releases easily from the substrate after curing, and is supplied as a preformed strip on siliconised release paper that is applied directly from the reel. It is offered in two adhesion levels, standard and higher tack, including versions for high-temperature curing, and is approved for use by major companies in the wind energy industry. Processing conditions vary, so we recommend testing the tape in your own process.
Other composite moulding and sealing
The tape is also used for moulding other glass fibre products and for sealing HVAC duct flanges. See also General Industry and HVAC for related uses, and KISO 458 Butyl Tape for general-purpose butyl sealing.

See moreVacuum bag tape is a butyl sealing strip that forms an airtight seal between the mould and the vacuum film when composite materials for wind turbine blades are cast. It has to stick to the mould and film during the process and release cleanly afterwards.
The choice depends on the curing temperature, the adhesion you need and the surfaces involved. KISO offers two adhesion levels, including versions for high-temperature curing. Tell us your curing cycle, the materials you seal against and how the tape is applied, and we will help you select a tape. We recommend testing it in your own process.
