Roofing & Cladding

Why KISO

KISO manufactures the butyl, alu-butyl and EPDM sealing products used for lap joints, flashing, gutter joints and wall panel joints in metal roofing and cladding. Because KISO compounds its own butyl, flexibility and adhesion can be tuned to this application rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all tape. For manufacturers of roofing and cladding systems and for distributors, KISO can produce to your specification and supply under your own brand, including packaging, printing and labels. Founded in 1971 and ISO 9001 certified, with production in Køge and customers in 20+ European countries.

Applications

Metal roofing and cladding systems rely on their joints, overlaps and penetrations staying weathertight through thermal movement, weather exposure and mechanical stress. KISO sealing tapes are used throughout construction and maintenance, from side and end lap joints during installation to long-term repair of flashing, gutters and wall panel joints.

Installer sealing a metal roof

Side and end lap joints in metal roofing and cladding
Where metal roofing or cladding sheets overlap, the joint needs a seal that stays airtight and water-repellent without hardening or cracking as the sheets expand and contract with temperature. KISO 658 Roofing Butyl is developed specifically for industrial roofing and cladding, and carries an NFRC Class A certificate for movement capability. KISO 458 Butyl Tape is a suitable general-purpose alternative for the same joint types — see the KISO 458 product page for full technical specifications.

Flashing, gutters and roof penetrations
Flashing details, gutter joints and roof penetrations are exposed and often mechanically fixed with nails or screws, so the seal has to keep working even where it’s punctured. KISO 502 Tearproof-Alu-Butyl Tape is a non-reflective, tear-resistant flashing and repair tape for exactly these situations, while KISO 501 Alu-Butyl Tape offers a more economical option for less exposed sealing tasks — see the KISO 501  & KISO 502 product page for full technical specifications.

Sealing wall panel joints in prefabricated cladding
Prefabricated wall panels need a joint seal that absorbs movement between panels while keeping the building air- and water-tight. KISO PP Profile is an extruded EPDM bubble gasket developed for this purpose, available with or without an adhesive backing — see the KISO PP Profile product page for full technical specifications.

FAQ

What sealing tape should I use for side and end laps on metal roofing?

A self-adhesive butyl sealing tape that stays flexible through temperature changes, such as KISO 458 Butyl Tape, is designed specifically for sealing side and end lap joints in metal roofing and cladding.

How do I seal flashing, gutters and roof penetrations on a metal roof?

Flashing, gutters and roof penetrations need a tear-resistant sealing tape that keeps working even where it is mechanically fixed with nails or screws — KISO 502 Tearproof-Alu-Butyl Tape is developed for this, with KISO 501 Alu-Butyl Tape as a more economical option for less exposed areas.

What is used to seal wall panel joints in prefabricated cladding systems?

An extruded EPDM bubble gasket, such as KISO PP Profile, is used to seal joints between prefabricated wall panels, absorbing movement while keeping the building air- and water-tight.

Does KISO manufacture its own sealing tapes, or resell other suppliers’ products?

KISO manufactures butyl sealing tapes in Denmark and compounds its own rubber materials in-house, rather than reselling pre-mixed compound from third parties.
