General Industry

Why KISO

KISO produces butyl tape and EPDM profiles to your specification for industrial products such as panels and containers, doors and hatches, and vehicle and machine components. Because KISO compounds its own butyl and EPDM and extrudes the profiles itself, material, dimensions and liner can be matched to your production process. For industrial manufacturers and for distributors, KISO can produce to your specification and supply under your own brand, including packaging, printing and labels. Founded in 1971 and ISO 9001 certified, with production in Køge and customers in 20+ European countries.

Applications

Joints in panels, containers and enclosures
Where metal panels meet, the joint has to stay airtight and watertight. KISO 354 Butyl Tape is a high-tack butyl with instant grab, listed for sealing joints in metal containers and for applications at lower ambient temperatures. KISO 458 Butyl Tape is a general-purpose butyl for compression joints and seams. KISO’s data sheets also list panel joints in cold stores for KISO 513 Diff-Open-PP-Butyl Tape, so contact us if your panels are insulated and you need the right tape.

Doors, hatches and openings
Industrial doors, manholes, hatches and other openings need a gasket that seals when the opening is closed. KISO’s EPDM P and D profiles are used for these openings, and for ventilation and automotive applications, and come in different sizes, shapes and colours to match the application. KISO PP Profile – Bubble Gasket is an extruded EPDM gasket available with or without adhesive. If your opening needs a different profile, KISO can develop one together with you.

Noise damping, hatches and mechanical engineering
KISO’s data sheets for KISO 354 and KISO 458 list acoustic solutions in the automotive industry. KISO 458 Butyl Foam-Core Tape is butyl extruded around a polyethylene foam core, with good recovery after compression, and is listed for hatches and for automotive and mechanical engineering applications. Application conditions vary, so we recommend testing the tape for your specific use.

FAQ

Can KISO produce butyl tape or EPDM profiles to our drawing or specification?

Yes. KISO’s butyl tapes are made in dimensions set by customer requirement, with a choice of colours and liner, and KISO develops EPDM profiles together with customers. Send us a drawing, a sample or your existing profile, together with how the product is fitted in your production and the quantity you expect, and we will assess the solution with you.

What is the difference between butyl tape and an EPDM profile for sealing an opening?

Butyl tape is a self-adhesive, non-hardening sealant that is applied directly in a joint or seam. An EPDM profile is an extruded rubber gasket, with or without adhesive, that is fitted around an opening such as a door or hatch. Which is right depends on whether the joint is fixed or the opening is opened and closed.

Can butyl tape be used for noise damping?

KISO’s data sheets for KISO 354 and KISO 458 list acoustic solutions in the automotive industry. Results depend on the construction and application conditions, so we recommend testing the tape in your own product, and our team can help you select it.
