KISO manufactures the butyl and alu-butyl tapes used to seal duct flanges, ductwork joints and air handling units. Because KISO compounds its own butyl, width, colour and foil facing can be matched to the flange profile and your production process. For manufacturers of ductwork and air handling units and for distributors, KISO can produce to your specification and supply under your own brand, including packaging, printing and labels. Founded in 1971 and ISO 9001 certified, with production in Køge and customers in 20+ European countries.
Duct flange sealing
In HVAC systems, the joints between duct sections are where air can escape. A self-adhesive butyl tape applied between the flanges forms an airtight seal that stays flexible, because the butyl does not harden. KISO 458 Butyl Tape is a general-purpose butyl tape for sealing duct flanges, supplied as rectangular or round profiles in a range of dimensions and colours. KISO 501 Alu-Butyl Tape combines the butyl with an aluminium foil facing that is wider than the butyl and keeps the seal intact where screws or fixings penetrate it.
Ductwork joints and air handling units
KISO’s data sheets list ductwork joints and air handling units as application areas for foil-faced butyl tapes. KISO 501 is the standard alu-butyl option. KISO 502 Tearproof-Alu-Butyl Tape has a tear- and puncture-resistant foil laminate for more demanding joints, and KISO 504 Alu-Butyl Joist Tape, with dark grey aluminium foil, is also listed for flanged ductwork joints. Application conditions vary between units and production processes, so we recommend testing the tape for your specific application; our team can help you select the right one.

See moreKISO 458 Butyl Tape and KISO 501 Alu-Butyl Tape are both listed in their data sheets for sealing duct flanges in HVAC systems. KISO 501, 502 and 504 are listed for ductwork joints and air handling units. Because conditions differ, test the tape for your specific application.
Butyl tape such as KISO 458 is the butyl sealing strip on its own, supplied on a release paper or liner. Alu-butyl tape such as KISO 501 has an aluminium foil laminate on top. The foil is 5 mm wider than the butyl, covers it, and keeps the seal intact where screws or fixings penetrate the tape.
KISO butyl tapes are available in various dimensions and colours, and can be combined with different foils and backings. KISO also offers customisation such as foam, glass fibre or rubber cord in the butyl. Contact us with your flange profile and process requirements.
According to the data sheets, the service temperature range is -30 °C to +90 °C for KISO 458 and -30 °C to +80 °C for KISO 501 and 502, depending on application. The recommended application temperature is above +5 °C, with 15–25 °C preferred.
