Why KISO

KISO manufactures the butyl tapes used for panel, window, roof and hatch joints in caravans and motorhomes, including butyl with a foam core. Because KISO compounds its own butyl, shape, colour and foam core can be matched to the joint design and your production line. For caravan and motorhome manufacturers and for distributors, KISO can produce to your specification and supply under your own brand, including packaging, printing and labels. Applications

Sealing joints in caravan and motorhome construction
Caravan bodies have many joints that must stay airtight and watertight while the vehicle moves, flexes and is used year-round. KISO 458 Butyl Tape is a general-purpose butyl tape for the construction of caravans and motorhomes, and also acts as an acoustic dampener. It is supplied as rectangular or round profiles in numerous dimensions and several colours, so the tape can be matched to the joint. KISO 354 Butyl Tape is available for similar joints.

Hatches and joints that are compressed
Where a joint is closed and opened, or compressed during assembly, the seal has to recover. KISO 458 Butyl Foam-Core Tape is a thin butyl layer around a compressible polyethylene foam core. It is highly conformable and recovers well after compression, which is why it is used for hatches in mobile homes and caravans. Processing conditions vary, so we recommend testing the tape in your own production.

Why is butyl tape used in caravan construction?

Butyl tape is a self-adhesive, non-hardening sealing strip that forms an airtight and watertight seal between panels, frames and other components. It stays flexible and adheres to metal, glass, wood and composite materials.

When should I use a butyl tape with a foam core?

A foam core gives the tape compressive strength and recovery after compression. KISO 458 Butyl Foam-Core is used where a joint is compressed or opened, for example hatches in caravans and mobile homes. Tell us the joint design and we will help you choose.
